Shararat revolves around Jiya (Shruti Seth), who is the great-great-great-great-granddaughter of Rani Devi (Daisy Irani)/(Shammi). The film premieres on day of Jiya's birthday. As a descendant of a family of fairy-like creatures, Jiya unknowingly becomes the possessor of magic powers. Because of the actions of her ancestors that were good the first born in each generation has the ability to create magic when she turns 18, and that includes Jiya. Jiya lives in the same household as Her father is of Dr. Suraj Malhotra (Mahesh Thakur) as well as the maternal grandmother Radha (Poonam Narula then Eva Grover) and her younger sister Jai as well as her mother grandparents Sushma (Farida Jalal). Alongside this she has college acquaintances and friends like the famous stud basketball star Dhruv (Karanvir Bohra) who Jiya seems to have a secret crush. Dhruv shares her passion as Parminder (or Pam, as she calls everyone to refer to her)(Simple Kaul) the newest NRI student in the college, fears Jiya to grab his attention for the entire time; Meeta (Addite Shirwaikar ) the starry-eyed, romantic most beloved friend as well as Raja (Harsh Vashisht) his best friend who always gets annoyed by Meeta following Dhruv. Pam Also, she is the daughter of Shanti Saberwal (Shoma Anand) who is the typical neighbor of Malhotra's who thinks that things aren't as typical in the Malhotra family, and she often visits to borrow something or other. Also, she is a fan of Suraj. Her son is named Bittu who occasionally plays with Jiya's sister Jai. The Malhotra house is inhabited by three fairies who make use of to, or more often, misuse their powers almost always end with a snare. But, Bebo accidentally falls in the entire potion. That's the reason she is able to perform magic even when other fairies under the age of 18 aren't able to.
